YAC honored at Salisbury University ceremony

Salisbury, MD — The recipients of the Eastern Shore Reading Council’s (ESRC) Young Authors’ Contest (YAC) were honored Thursday, April 20th at the Guerrieri Center located on the campus of Salisbury University.

Berlin Intermediate student Saylor Amos, right, poses with her teacher Ms. Keys, left, and author Adrian Fogelin at the Eastern Shore Reading Council’s Celebration for Young Authors. Amos took third place in the fifth grade short story contest.

Proud parents, students, and teachers funneled into the Wicomico Room to hear opening remarks from author Adrian Fogelin, who shared her experiences as a writer. The audience was captivated with Fogelin’s experiences as she shared about her own steps when writing her short stories and children books.

Andrea Vandizer, the YAC elementary school chairperson, expressed the excitement found in reading the many well written entries submitted this year. “It truly was exciting for our judges to experience the ideas of our youngest authors all the way to our high school authors,” Vandizer stated.

Shortly afterwards each winner was presented a trophy by Brian Cook, the YAC middle/high school chairperson, and an anthology of all the winners by Robin Adamopoulos, ESCR secretary. At the conclusion of the event, there was a reception for the winners and time the young authors to meet with Fogelin; Fogelin books were also available for purchase.
