Salisbury, Md. — The Eastern Shore Literacy association is proud to announce its annual Young Authors’ Contest information is available to all schools in Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties. Being tagged the Grammy’s of Student Writing, the Young Authors’ Contest continues to pull together the highest quality of writing from across the many schools on the Lower Eastern Shore.
“This year’s contest is going to be like no other because schools are not starting in a traditional format,” Young Authors’ Contest Co-Chair indicated. “Each year we have taken a step forward in making components of the the contest digital, but with recent COVID related events it was decided to accept submissions entirely online because we do not know when and if students are going to be back in the classroom this fall.”
The contest consists of two categories original poetry and short stories in grades 1-12. Students may submit one entry into each category in their respective grade-level. Contest posters and student cover sheets were distributed to past participants and teachers this week. In addition, digital promotional materials are being integrated in learning management systems of the local schools districts as well.
All submissions must be submitted in two separate files — student entry and student cover sheet — using Microsoft Word on the ESLA web site under the Young Authors’ Contest tab. Each grade-level and category has its own submission portal. Each entry should be submitted by the entry deadline of December 18, 2020.
