The Eastern Shore Literacy Association (ESLA) proudly congratulates several Maryland literacy chapters that have earned the International Literacy Association (ILA) Honor Award, a prestigious recognition that highlights outstanding service to educators, students, and local communities.
The ILA Honor Award recognizes chapters that demonstrate excellence in supporting literacy through professional learning opportunities for educators, community literacy initiatives, partnerships with state and international literacy organizations, and advocacy for literacy advancement.
This year, several Maryland chapters were recognized for their commitment to strengthening literacy programs and supporting educators across the state:
- Harford County Literacy Chapter – Year 1
- Howard County Literacy Association – Year 38
- Prince George’s County Literacy Chapter – Year 1
- Upper Shore Literacy Chapter – Year 1
Of particular note is the Howard County Literacy Association, which earned the Honor Award for the 38th year, reflecting decades of sustained leadership and service in literacy education.
These chapters exemplify the mission of the International Literacy Association by promoting high-quality literacy instruction, engaging communities in reading and writing initiatives, and supporting educators through meaningful professional learning.
